Listen to Gina’s interview on ABC Queensland with Susan Graham-Ryan regarding public safety from knife attacks.
In an interview with Susan Graham-Ryan on ABC Radio Queensland, Gina discussed the increasing concern over public safety in light of rising violent incidents. She emphasised the importance of individuals being aware of their surroundings and thinking ahead when going out, such as familiarising themselves with exit points in shopping centres and avoiding poorly lit areas. She stressed trusting one’s gut instinct and reporting suspicious behaviour as key preventative measures. Gina also addressed the role of shopping centres in ensuring safety, advocating for the removal of knives from retail shelves, following Coles’ lead, and called for stricter laws and more police powers to combat rising violence. While she acknowledged that measures like metal detectors may seem extreme, she believes tougher laws and enforcement could help reduce crime and improve public safety.
