Local business owner, Gina Field ensured Penrith made its mark in the business world when she was named as one of five top finalists for the Telstra NSW Business Woman of the Year award.

Think security guard and you may well conjure up a big, burly gruff male. Not so for security guard and Nepean Regional Security founder Gina Field – a pioneer in the field and a passionate advocate of security as a worthy vocation for women.

Her remarkable success resulted in her being in the running for prestigious awards.

New Zealand-born Audette Exel, who manages million-dollar deals for big business and gives away millions to the poor of Nepal and Uganda took out the award in the ceremony which took place at the Westin Hotel in sydney lates last month.

“The whole process has given me confidence both in my business and personally,” Gina said.

“Out of over 4,600 nominations it was narrowed down to just five finalist in the business owner category. I was amongst some of top business women in NSW, one who designed the aboriginal log for Qantas and a lady who was formally the treasurer of Burma having her signature in the five dollar note.

“It was an honour to represent Penrith at this level and being involved in these awards as a finalist will always be a great highlight in my life.”

One of the many accomplishments that Gina has under her belt is her rise to the top in what is usually a male dominated field.

“Resilience and determination enabled me to overcome stereotypical attitudes and I am passionate about mentoring other women to succeed in male dominated industries,” Gina said.

Gina joined security when she was just 19 and quickly saw an opportunity to create a customer-service led security business. She now deploys more than 40 guards across NSW, predominantly on Government contracts.

She’s also had challenging assignments such as the southern hemisphere’s biggest dance party and Baz Luhrmann’s latest blockbuster The Great Gatsby.

In a business that’s 24/7, 365 days a year, Gina leads by example and through innovation. She still goes on patrol to keep abreast of customer service opportunities and has created an industry compliant electronic reporting facility which has been embraced by clients.
